Salesforce Migration Methodology

Salesforce is very much the poster child of the cloud revolution.  It has moved from being a supplier to SME sales teams to being the CRM of choice for an increasing number of some of the largest enterprises around.  It is also increasingly being used by OEM and VAR as a platform upon which sophisticated specialist applications are being written.  And yet, like any other application, it has its own idiosyncrasies when it comes to loading.  Using a case study based approach Henry Sykes will explore the pitfalls, tricks and tips  that make for a more certain journey to the cloud.

A Matter of Life and Death – Data Migrations in Healthcare Settings

Alisdair uses his wealth of experience of implementing clinical systems around the world for Philips Health Care to deliver an insight into how to manage data migrations where data quality really is a matter of life and death.  Drawing freely on his experiences to illustrate this presentation he will explain how to meet these demanding standards in multiple cultural and language settings

Moving to the G-Cloud

Government procurement is changing.  The presence of the G Cloud is finally putting the SME on an equal footing with the big boys when it comes to purchasers’ awareness.  It is also a new platform for collaboration and integration.  Explaining what this means for data aware companies and Data Migration in particular, Jacqui Taylor of FlyingBinary illustrates with the use of real life examples the impact this has had in the private sector and, the transformational impact it can have, on the nature of government computing.

Getting the Data Right

Data quality plays such a vital role in Data Migrations and it can be the spring board to further Data Management success as Amir illustrates with compelling case studies.  Tools and techniques for the key components of data discovery, profiling and consolidation will be explained aided by extensive customer examples. Amir will also demonstrate the importance of continuing this data quality management beyond the migration event horizon.

Crowd Sourcing a Data Migration Check List

Dylan has some exciting news to share about using a web based collaborative approach on his Data Migration Pro site to crowd source a Data Migration health check as the first steps to a best practice activity list for Data Migration Projects. This is an innovative use of web enabled collaboration but will the result be an enhancement on what we already have?

Creating a Migration Factory

Never miss a payment is the motto Paul’s team live by. Moving legacy pension data from often cranky and entirely bespoke client systems to Capita Hartshead’s award winning pensions platform is always challenging but he knows that missing a payment to any pensioner is not an option when dealing with this vulnerable group. Learn how his migration factory approach using the PDMv2 methodology helps secure his 100% record over scores of migrations.

Data Design: The X Factor for a Successful SAP Migration

The biggest mistake most organisations make is to approach data migration as a tactical challenge, overlooking the fact that data is what drives their key business processes. Data Migration can be expensive, risky and difficult – yet in spite of well-known risks many businesses frequently do not fully understand the challenges until too late and problems become expensive to fix.  Sharing ‘real world client experiences this session discuss:

  • Why good Data Design is critical to successful data migration
  • How to engage the business to ensure the data you have is transformed into the data your business processes need
  • How to select the optimal approach for your specific data migration requirements
  • How automated code generation dramatically reduces project risks, timescales and costs

Although based on Clive’s extensive SAP experience there are lessons to be learned here for all enterprise scale data migrations.

Data Migration - Delivering the Impossible

With an opening line of

“When we arrived, there was no data, no specification and only high level requirements – and, of course, there was too little time left.  We didn’t need “Ziggy” to tell us that this was another mission for the Data Ninjas …”

And described as “A mix of Quantum Leap and Mission Impossible” this is a presentation not to be missed.  Many of us have been given the poisoned chalice of the impossible migration.  With wit, anecdote and case study Charles will show us how to deliver quality results from the most unpromising of starting points.  If you think you are facing a challenge check this out.

Panel Discussion

With an array of opinionated panellists, a conference floor of delegates enlightened by a day of engagement with the issues surrounding data migration and following close on the heels of the wine reception, this promises to be a lively discussion to finish of the Data Migration Matters event for this year.  Bring your questions for the panel.  Diverse opinions are welcome.

Workshop Sessions

For those of you new to Data Migration and those of you aching to get to see the latest technology, we bring you two of the best pieces of software around.  Speak to the creators and learn how to use these products in anger.

These sessions are available at no extra cost but book early to avoid disappointment.  Spaces are limited to allow hands on interaction with the software.  Booking arrangements will be emailed out to signed-up delegates in the week before event.

X88 - Pandora

Created by X88 this is the profiling and data quality software that is making waves everywhere.    If you need to know what profiling is about, this is a great starting point.  If you thought you knew profiling come find out what all the fuss is about.  Better still take home a free copy of their studio edition to practice what you have been taught after conference.

QAS, an offshoot of the mighty Experian group, have crafted the DMP platform to enable their clients to develop the complete data management competency demanded of all enterprises in this era where knowledge is a strategic resource.  A key first component of such a competency is getting the data right in the first place.  Check out the DMP to see how profiling, data quality and data value analysis performed as part of a data migration could be your first step on the road to full data management.
