PDM V2 – The Standard The Industry Has Been Waiting For?
Back in 2006 Johny Morris produced what is still the leading book and the first to identify Data Migration as a domain in its own right within IT. “Practical Data Migration” was a great success and led to the first of the DMM event series. However since then there have been a number of developments that have driven the need for PDM V2. In this presentation Johny Morris will discuss recent trends and technology developments that have led to the need to produce the next version of PDM. Is this the unified approach that project managers, industry analysts and systems implementers have all been waiting for?
A Matter of life And Death - Data Migrations in the Health Service
As part of the Connecting for Health programme David McArdle & Melanie Jordan are engaged in a series of Data Migration projects across London. Of interest beyond the limits of Health Care industry are the lessons they have learned and their practical approaches to Data Quality and Data Migration which have been honed by repeated practical experience. Theirs is an environment where data quality can literally be a matter of life and death, so if you have a mission critical Data Migration coming up this is a presentation not to be missed.
Leveraging Data Quality Technology In A Data Migration Setting
This presentation delivers a series of case study accounts of how a holistic data quality approach can help an organisation accelerate, de-risk and successfully deliver their data migration. The presentation will examine the various functions of data quality technology and explain how they can be integrated into a successful data migration framework.
Mastering Data in Migrations
Master Data Management is increasingly seen as a universal panacea for a range of issues, some regulatory, some business facing. However MDM just like any other application suffers the same issues of Data Quality and source selection plus a few unique ones of its own. MDM is also, increasingly being used tactically within Data Migration projects to control key data items. This presentation, from an experienced practitioner, brings out both the general and the particular lessons to be learned from a Data Migration perspective.
Semantic Modelling – The New Migration Paradigm
From the industry analysts through to the specialist papers everyone is talking about semantic modelling and its impact on Data Migration. Confused? Well this talk will guide you through the labyrinth of terms and methods to explain a whole new way of addressing the Data Migration challenge that will revolutionise our industry.
Open Source Reduces the Cost of Data Migration – fact or fiction?
We are hearing a lot these days, especially from government, about the adoption of Open Source as a way of reducing cost, but do the risks outweigh the benefits? Here an advocate from the Open Source movement provides real –life examples of how UK companies have mitigated the Open Source risks whilst garnering the benefits of an extended developer and support community.
It’s More Than Data Mapping (From the DMPro call for papers)
This presentation looks at the how to, and how not to, of data migration based on experience of many migrations (both good and bad) in the financial services broking and banking sector. Covering business and people issues, as well as project management, technical tips and testing advice. Preaching that data migration is not just a case of “getting on with the mapping” but that data migration can sink a project single handedly Ian will be giving an account from the perspective of a guy who has been there, done that.
This is the chosen paper from the call for papers held in conjunction with Data Migration Pro.
Case Study – Local Government, Revolt and Revolution
Drawing on real life examples of the impact of change that new system implementations bring with them, this very experienced speaker will discuss the impact of this on the Data Migration challenge. The presentation will be illustrated with his experiences within local government and the financial sector. An excellent presentation for executives or others responsible for managing the business change in large migration programmes.
Constructing a Successful Migration Strategy – What to consider, plan and watch out for?
This presentation will dissect migration use cases to reveal common themes, practices, and pitfalls. These include migration from legacy data formats and B2B migrations/upgrades. Humphrey will also discuss success factors for data quality and fuzzy matching. He will review real-world case studies in each area and discuss upfront planning tactics, lessons learned and common stumbling blocks to avoid. Attendees will leave with actionable knowledge that they can apply in their own projects.
Hands On Workshops
New this year to Data Migration Matters will be a set of hands on workshops that will allow you to experience data migration software for real.
Talend Introduction to Profiling, Data Quality & ETL Tools
The objective of the workshop is to demonstrate how easy it is to Migrate and enrich data using a state of the art ETL tool. There will be 3 exercises that will be built by the workshop attendees in 40 minutes. The rolling workshops will cover setting up the migration repository using the necessary components to migrate data then mapping and enriching data before running a migration to a MySQL database.
Places are limited and must be booked on the day, so book early to avoid disappointment. Each participant will receive free software to take away (Talend Integration Suite) plus a user guide.
Rever Migration Modelling Tool
Have you wondered what all the fuss is about over the next generation model based migration tools? Convinced of their value but not sure how you would implement one in your environment? Well this is your chance to get your hands on a leading edge modeling tool that can read code as well as schema’s to uncover the real rules behind your legacy systems.
